In Loving Memory

Sat, Feb 9th, was the 5 year anniversary of my mother-in-laws death. She died from a rare form of cancer called cholangiocarcinoma. It originated in the bile duct and had her entire liver before she knew it. She died 2 days shy of 2 months since her diagnosis and 2 months before Hannah was born. Sadly, she did not live to see her "baby girl."

Since this is a crafting blog, more or less, I thought I would share our favorite painting that she made for us. It's painted on silk. She told us is was the one and only time she'd paint on silk. :-) She was a very talented woman, could crochet, paint, sew. She loved crafting. I now have most all of her old craft magazines. Anyway....

We love and miss you, Miss Joyce!

For CRAYON out loud!

Happy Valentine's Day for CRAYON out loud! These are crayon hearts and really simple to make, after you get the crayons peeled. A tip to peeling them is to soak them in water first. I bought one of the silicone Wilton mini-heart pans at Michael's. Break some crayons and melt in the oven at 250 degrees. Let them cool and they pop right out.

And, this is sure to stop a good nighttime sewing session. WHOOPS!! My serger got the best of me here.

Moderating Comments

Hey guys! Just letting you know that I've had to start moderating the comments section. I'm getting junk spam stuff advertising different products. I thought that I would be emailed when new comment was posted for me to approve or reject, but that's not happening. So...if you post a comment, it will show once I log on and realize there's a comment to approve. Sorry about this. I wish folks wouldn't try to use our blogs for their personal advertisements. Ugh!

You Make My Day

Kathy made my day and awarded me my first award, the You Make My Day Award. Thank you so much, Kathy!
I'd like to nominate Wool Winder. I LOVE reading her blog, seeing all the beautiful things she makes, and admiring her photography.....not to mention, her travels.

H is for....

Hearts or Hannah or Hannah's Hearts. After Hannah saw Lizzie's L she declared that she needed an H on a shirt. She looked and looked and looked in my fabric stash and found some red heart fabric. It's actually leftover scraps from a Valentine's shirt that I made her and Lizzie in 2005. I'll see if I can find Hannah's shirt and photograph it. It was one of the very first things I ever made. Anyway, after she found the heart fabric we needed a shirt. Last week when we were in Target, she picked out a hot pink shirt. A light pink wouldn't do. It had to be the hot pink. :-) Hannah's very particular about her pink these days. I'm quite surprised but I think it looks pretty good together.

Lesson learned: On stretchy fabrics, a stabilizer really needs to be used when do an applique. I started without it and then ripped the stitches out. Much better now! And, next time I'm going to round the corners of my letters and see if I like that better.
